MICK'S TIMBER LADY

Mick's at it again!Regulars will recall some of his previous efforts,She's Nub's,the Filam and that wicked Bullet......."I got another one on the go bit of a mystery actually, it's believed to be a Goldsbrough copy maybe called nifty 2 built near the Hawkesbury somewhere, ring any bells? It's full timber, very well built and has apparently won the bridge to bridge timber class before.
It was a runner when i got it with a cranky 302 in it but unfortunately the keel and 1 board either side were oil rotten so the resto begins ..... here are a few pics maybe someone will be able to help identify the old girl."....... Love your work Mick, keep us posted.

  1. This hull does have the shape in the bow stem and the side planks run up to the gunwale at the bow.
The front deck has the same shape as does the transom , but is is longer than the Filam-ski sport hull.
What was the ski sport pulled from ?

  2. Funny that you mention that.I too noticed the remarkable similarities between the two, especially the pic of this one flipped. As you say bow entry and deck, transom all very very similar. The Ski Sport from memory (i'll recheck my notes as I have the complete story) was pulled from a FISHER ? timber clinker which was first modified.mmmmmmm I'll point these pics out to Lindsay Smith, who was there back when this happened to see what he reckons....What do you reckon Mick???you would have seen the two side by side?notice anything??...cheers Ross, very interesting!Ron

  4. Yeah they are close tho the curves in the bow are actually quite different between the 2 with Nifty {the timber boat} have a pretty aggressive s shaped curve through the bow. The Filam also has a lot more roll through the front/mid section and less transom angle. The timber boat has had the engine shifted back 3 times to get the balance right and has ended up close to a foot back from the bridge so i assume it was the first one built. They definitely got it right tho it would have to be the best handling clinker i have ever been in rides unbelievable thru chop, creates no wake, and turns on a dime and is good for more than 40mph with me managing a quick bare-foot before we pulled the old girl down.
