oops, geezuz Pete I'm so sorry mate.I accidently removed your comment while attempting to reply. I cant seem to get it back :-( ... Any chance you could list the boats again. VERY SORRY MATE. Ron
Has anyone ever heard of a skiff named viper wich was powered by a grey motor with a repco Erving cross flow head. Also I can remember a hydro with the same kind of motor called Snoopy where the driver sat in front of the motor.my dad raced a bondwood skiff with a grey motor called Manatee,he belonged to the VSBC.these boats where all raced in the sixties and seventies.Has anyone ever heard oF or seen them.Regards, Peter Hempenstall.
Gday Ron,the boats I described are from the late sixties ,early seventees ,Viper was a clinker skiff and running a Grey Holden motor with a repco high power head and three stromburg carbs.Snoopy was a hydro with a repco head the same as before but running fuel injection and my dads boat Manatee was a bondwood skiff running a hot grey motor with three su,s. (my dads boat ) he belonged to theVSBC.All three boats raced in the 155 cubic inch class.I saw Viper and Snoopy race at lake Negambie but never saw them race at Albert park so they may have been interstate boats, not sure, but both were very impressive back markers.I do miss the racing at Albert park watching Boats like Keith Hoopers Mandy with crazy Don Preese at the wheel racing the likes of Lindyloo and Vulture and the Screemin eagle, fantastic stuff.Regards,Peter Hempenstall.
Correct - Viper the clinker skiff was owned & raced by my uncle Max Luhrs (RIP) a farmer from Miners Rest LSPBC. Recently met Rivets(Jack Burns CAMS Scrutineer) Said he built the hull. Bill Ruden spannered the Repco HP grey. To overcome carburetor slosh it was later fitted with 6 throttle bodies & Lucas fuel injection. Your right. I watched all those boats in awe. Childhood memories - Lindsay Drife - Melbourne
