  1. Nice pics of the Stiletto, got the SR myself. My uncle Don Gibbins owned the factory in Melb with his brother Frank years ago. I've been looking for some history on the company as when it was sold off to a mob in Perth all the books/history went missing. I think the racing one is Paul Phillips

    1. How r ya's? its me again the bloke who brought the devestator was woundering how would the deluxe model look with a wake tower on it? As im thinking on getting an indy wake tower wat do ya's think?

    2. I say go for it. Look a bit more stylish without but when you love your boarding there's no way around it. I do rather high poles on older boats rather than towers but not enough structure (bearers) in older outboard hulls floors. Tower to deck best bet for boarding with O/B's. Just dont go to high with it or you'll shit yourself when big blokes are cutting. C'mon dust the camera off, wanna see 'DEVESTATOR'. Stiletto's are cool as!

  9. Hi, can anyone tell me what's the biggest motor and the fastest anyone has gone with a stiletto deluxe

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. G'day mate, interesting question. Best I can come up with for a guideline is; Deluxe model ratings 30hp to 115hp. Deluxe model when tested new with 100hp Merc 52mph+, two on board in slight chop 45mph. Stiletto's (more so the SR's) where quite popular in class racing so naturally they would have ran much higher speeds in race tune. Great little boats, love 'em!

    2. I have a stilleto with an evinrude 130 hp kn back. We put it in in 1990. Topped out at about 70 mph.

    3. Thanks heaps for your information, I have a deluxe, that had a tired 90 Johnson, got my hands on a 91mdl 175 johno, not much heavier than the old 90hp, obviously a lot more powerfull, should be trying it out cup weekend, was hoping someone could tell me what they handle like at 70 mph, any tips on the setup to speed things along.

    4. Hi There everyone
I used to have a deluxe stiletto with a 115 optimax and got that up to 115kmph boat was barely in the water that was with me and my brother in it. this was nearly 10 years ago havent had it for 5 years or so but today i bought another old deluxe project debating putting a new 115 fourstroke merc on it. but first it needs a new floor and a full overhaul 500 bucks boat and mint condition trailer. in tassie

      Delete
  10. Just updated my profile. Was wondering is the deluxe and the SR the same length?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah, your SR and the deluxe share the same hull besides the obvious deck differences. Not sure if there your previous comments now that you've updated ? If so yours is definitely the sportier SR model. Holy s#@t, that thing will be a weapon with the 175 out back. Be careful and take some spare jocks aye :) Let us know how you go and please get some pics for us.

  12. first outing last weekend with 175 hp motor, went really well, seemed to handle the extra weight and power quite well, got a max speed of 60mph @ 6000 rpm, got there really quick, needs a prop with some more pitch I think for next time out.

  13. got the sr with 115hp johnson goes like a rocket. had evenrude 2L 120hp that thing was heavy could not stop in straight line or the water came over the back and had to bilge pump it out. awesome boat wish i could get it the water more often. any idea what it would be worth yr2000 115hp johnson. hydraulic steering, trim plate on motor leg, new floor, great condition

  14. Hi I have a stilleto deluxe and im in the middle of making a ski pole for the back of it and I was wondering what is the best way to fix it to the floor as there is no access to underneath to plate of brace I. Has anyone got any tips?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I recently fitted a ski pole to my deluxe, I ended up making a brace that went back to the transom along the floor of the boat, as I found the floor is very thin material. Have been using it this season, works fine

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well Happy New Year to you all, I have finally just started glassing a new transom into my SR and am looking for any information (specs) on the Stileto's.

Great Pics and a good read

    Cheers

  17. Hi there, just purchased a boat and was told that it was a Swiftcraft Stiletto but I can not find a model that matches my hull. Does any one know of any less common stiletto hulls than the ones pictured above? This is the link to the boat I bought for pictures and etc.

    1. Hey Todd,
Nice to see another Sportscraft getting around, how does she handle the 115? I'm considering upping mine from the current 90 Johnny to a 110 or 115.
With the cavitation issue I had similar problems but installed a SE Sport Hydrofoil and it has pretty well fixed it, except when you turn hard under acceleration. With the 90 I can get to about 75kph.
You can check out my boat here: http://aussieskiboats.blogspot.com/search/label/sportscraft

      Cheers, Jon.

  21. Hi Guy,s , you may be able to enlighten me , I bought a swiftcraft stiletto boat couple of yrs back, getting it ready for this summer, needs a few little jobs, and bit of a tidy up , its got a 115 Johnson on the back, runs fine, but repowering with a merc tower 1500 hockey stick blue band, with a stainless 23p prop, owned the merc for a lot of yrs on a different boat, and as for weight I reacon the Johnson is heavier, anyway the boat,s yellow, has swiftcraft stiletto mk2 on the transfer on the side it,s a delux I,m sure now by the pics, the un sporty version, what was different on the mk1 ?? , and mine has a lot higher wind screen than the one up the top of the page, was there an option??, if so, I want one lol!!, as I have to replace mine, was going to put some tint in it, but at that height u have to be able to see ovr the top at some stage a bit , and seating mine has had two of those half round bucket ski seats put in the front, and some less than ideal seating in the back, bought a pair of back to back seats off ebay, hard to come by , what did they origionally have in them ?, ive seen the sr models with a bench across the back, but they might have been fitted anyway Cheers Darren.

  22. ps I hope this site is still open for discussion , since the last entry was a few months ago, cheers Darren.

  23. Not sure myself about mk1 or mk2, back to back seats were original items, I changed mine to buckets and a bench seat, feels alot roomier, should go well with that merc engine, let us know how it goes

  24. Hi I have a 14' stiletto deluxe as well, just finishing a major rebuild, new floor, stringers and transom. Hopefully it will still float, I might stick it in our dam first so as not to embarrass myself at the boat ramp. Yes they had back to backs originally, I installed 2 x swivels up front although not sure what to do with bench at the back or if this will take too much room. Flatout do you have some pics as would love to see how you did yours.

  26. Hi Guys, Darren again, progress report, well the little stiletto,s up and running, will take some pics and snd them in, bit more work than I first thaught, decided to replace the floor, so I had a go, and didn,t end up turning out to bad, got a hold of some 8mm good marine ply, and glued it in ended up using epoxy,, coated each side of floor, and stuck it in with the same stuff, with cloth matting, as I found out the fibreglass matting doesn,t really work with the epoxy, wet system it was called, used the slow cure hardner, good stuff, bit on the pricey side, but bonded to the ply really well, and seemed to lock on to the existing glass really well to, anyway had a test out run on the water, the old merc still a pain to start cold, jst need to make sure u have a good battery lol, boat handels really well, first time ive ever had it in the water, had a smile on my face for quiet a while after lol,, yeah went back to an alloy 19p prop, might even drop 1 more yet,, will no when get 2 slalems on the back, I don't think the 23p was ski friendly, defenetly not motor friendly for ski speeds, how fast did it go with the 23p??, don't really no, too busy thinking OMG IM GOING TO DIE, managed a quick glance at the tacho, I think it was about 5500, couldn't really be sure I wasn,t taking my eys off where I was going, happy boating cheers Darren.

  27. one more thing, maybe someone might no , on my merc, has p/t trim, I,ve got the trim pump inside the boat, model, on the non trim motors, they had a reverse lock, sort of a claw type arrangement that locked onto a pin when u selected reverse, mine doesn,t have that, but on the p/t pump it has a valve that u turn for supposedly going backwards to lock it up, ive never used it, bit far to reach back lol, all my motor has in the pin is a strap to stop it from going ovr centre, when tilted right up,am I missing something ?, or is that how they were made, trim cylinders seem to hold it in reverse, anyway cheers Darren .

  28. Hi just seeing if anyone know what size motor leg the swiftcraft stelleto takes. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. hi there Luke, on my delux, the tower of power has a 20'' leg, seems bout right, I have the engine sitting hard on the top of the transom, with the motor trimed down the stabilizer fin on the foot sits bout an inch above the bottom of the hull, I think they are supposed to sit about level, or just below, but on the old mercs I think its a 20'' or 25'' leg, so it works ok, prop grabs a bit of air if u turn hard sometimes but it,s ok, other brands of motors might be different inbetween lengths, hope this helps, cheers Darren.

  33. I bought an Stilletto a few year back, had a 115 Merc on (the old tall ones) ... that lasted about 5 minutes (literally !).

Looked around for something to replace the motor and found a 200 Black Max for $1500.00. Took a bit of work to get it on and running, setup steering, tilt, replace water pump, plugs and various bits and pieces. Took it out yesterday in Lake Eildon and it goes nice.

Didn't dare max it out, but at 1/3 throttle its about 35 knots, give it another 1/3 and its like hyperdrive from there, too fast to look at the speed !

Next I need to paint it, its the original yellow gel coat and all peeling. The cover on the Merc also looks like its been dragged behind a car !

  34. Steve here again. Took it out for another run and this time got up to 60mph, that was about flat out. It was chine walking and I am not really use to that, so it was a but unnerving. Also needs a foot pedal throttle, because the steering is heavy when its going flat out, I can't control it one handed, so the option is steer or throttle, not both at the same time. Also need to beef up the transom because the fiberglass is cracking at the top where the motor bolts on. We are going to put some angle steel across the top and a plate of aluminium over about 2/3 of the back to spread the load. Also started to strip it ready to paint, so hopefully will be ready for next spring.

    Cheers
    Steve

  36. Another update. I painted it, rebuilt the transom, new dash and new steering. Ran it last summer a few times.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33VZvnq3DGU
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKTGFbzjJKk

Hits 62mph at 6900 on an aluminium 22P prop. Turns out the motor is down on compression at around 95psi, so I pulled the heads and the chrome bores look very good. I am now rebuilding the powerhead, shaved heads, racing reeds, stacks, 24p stainless prop and solid engine mounts.

Also putting a new floor in and bracing the transom further. Should be ready to rock'n roll again the Summer.

I really love this boat !

    Cheers,
    Steve

  39. Hi all, I just purchased a 1973 stiletto (same as pic #3 & #6) equipped with a 115 Mercury - the boat needs a lot of TLC but the engine is strong and unmolested, I'm absolutely loving it...planning on bringing her back to her original glory.

  40. Hi all. Sorry to bother you (I do not know if this is the right place to post my question). I found on internet that you guys are experts on swift craft stiletto and Aussie boats.

My parents own a swift craft stiletto from the early eighties and I found, attached to the hull, a very old metal plate with the following numbers (I can barely see them...)

    STILETTO

    91

    91

    1 28

    14381

Do you know the meaning of those numbers?

Thanks so so much in advance!

  43. Hi all,

I have just bought a Swift Craft Stiletto 1978. After doing some research about it I stumbled across this forum. So hello everyone :-)

I'm not sure exactly if mines the S.R or Deluxe??

It's in great condition and recently painted. It only has a 50hp on it but I think it'll do just fine for what i want to use it for, just a runabout & cruising around . How do these boats handle in the chop? I've only been out on it once during the sea-trial before I bought it... I'm yet to take it out myself and cruise around. I live on the Gold Coast & plan on going around the canals & out to Wavebreak Island. If anyone could offer any info about the boat and how it handles chop, any general info, tips or tricks would be most appreciated.

    Thank you in advance
    Mark
